We all seem to carry burdens in our daily lives, some more than others.
We need to remember the importance of knowing the word of god. how can
we cast our burdens upon the lord if we do not know that the lord wants
us to cast our burdens upon him? 2 Timothy 2:14-16 study to show thyself
Afflictions and trials are no respecter of persons. We all tend to carry
them, but, there is no reason on earth why christians need to carry any
burden at all. The Word clearly states "cast all, not some, of your
burdens upon the lord". In 1 Peter 5:7 it says "..God careth for you"
can we believe and accept this truth?
In Psalm 55:1-6 we see a person overwhelmed with burdens. Need it be so?
1. What kinds of burdens do people carry?
(a) Burdens to do with the home. To many home is not sweet but full
of poverty-sickness-sorrow-lack of love, commitment and trust.
(b) Burdens that have to do with business responsibilties.
(c) Burdens in connection with the lords work. 2 Corinthians 11:24-28
(d) Burdens to do with our friends. Psalm 55:12-14
(e) Burdens physical. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
(f) Burdens temperamental making us prone to fear-anxiety-worry-
-despair and depression.
(g) Burdens connected with loss and bereavement. John 11:19 & 33
(h) Burdens of disappointment
(i) Burdens of sin -- the heaviest of all burdens. Romans 7:23-25
These are some of the types of burdens we bear and there are many more.
2. What are we to do with these burdens?
(a) We are told not to doubt god. Matthew 21:21
(b) We must not indulge in self-pity. Psalm 55:1-5
(c) We must not despair. Psalm 55:1-5
(d) We must not yield to the desire to escape. Psalm 55:6-7
We cannot run away from our burdens for they will follow after us.
The flesh tends to run , but god requires us to pass our burdens
on to him, both large and small.
(e) We must not react against others. We need to learn to forgive and
forget, not like the man in Psalm 55:17.
3. How then are we to find relief from our burdens?
We need to understand the difference between a god-given burden and the
burdens of this life and world.
(a) We are to accept the burdens of the lord. Matthew 11:28-30
these are the burdens god gives us to help us grow in the lord
just like you prune a bush and burden it that it may grow and be
more fruitful. God gives to us, so that we may trust him as he has
trusted us,for his wise and loving purpose for our life.
Romans 8:26-29
(b) We are to cast our burdens upon the lord. We must actively give
him our burdens and not just offer them to him. We must give them
to him and actually leave them with him and not try taking them
back again. Give them to jesus and leave them there!
Also, in our weakness we prove God's strength and support. God
wants us to learn the truth of "we cannot but god can" we see this
in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Will you cast them upon the lord?
Will you let him carry them for you?
Will you trust the Word of God?
Will you show yourself a workman that need not be ashamed?
is it to heavy for you?
(c) We are to leave our burdens with the Lord.
Once we cast our burdens on the Lord he takes the responsibility
for those burdens and for us.
If we don't know God's Word and his
promises then we will never be able to claim them.
"Cast the whole of your cares-anxieties-worries-all your concern,
once and for all--on him for he careth for you" 1 Peter 5:7.
