Proverbs 4:26-27

Introduction

In verses 20-25 God speaks of the ear, eyes, mouth, heart, lips and now our feet

[A] Proverbs 4:26

(1) Ponder

God wants us to ponder i.e. give heed to where we are going.
Are we walking aimlessly or following a vision?

(2) Path

Our path is the way we walk - Jesus is the way, the truth, the life.
Romans 6:4 Our identity is with Christ...

...Baptised into Him
...Risen with Him
...Walk His life

2 Corinthians 5:7 "We walk by faith not by sight" - by the spirit not the senses.
Romans 8:1-8 No condemnation if we walk in the spirit - in Christ.
We are condemned if we walk in the flesh - by senses.
V2 Two laws - "Law of the spirit of life in Jesus" and "Law of sin and death"
V5-8 Fleshly/carnal minded people cannot please God.
We must be spiritually minded.

Galatians 5:13-26 Love is to rule our lives.
V16 Walk in the spirit's leading and not the flesh.
(1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "Temple of the Holy Ghost - you are bought with a price - glorify God in your body")
V 19-21 "Works of the flesh" - smoking and addictions - any work (even a spiritual one) not inspired by God.
V22-23 "Works of the spirit" 9 gifts and 9 fruits.
V24-25 Walk the spiritual path (way) and overcome the flesh.
V26 Provoke not each other - watch our attitudes, watch our words.

Psalm 119:105 "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path"
The Word guides us and shows us how and where to walk - some paths lead to destruction.
Jesus is the Word, Jesus is the light!

Psalm 40:1-6 Gives us direction.
V1 Wait on God - in prayer, watchful in spirit - for the answer.
V2 Our feet set upon the rock of Jesus - out of the world's pit (like Joseph)
V4 Follow God not man.
V5 God loves us.
V6 God wants obedience not sacrifice.

(3) Feet

The feet represent our toing and froing e.g. Job 1:6-7
Ephesians 6:15 God wants us to be prepared to share the Gospel.
Our lives are to be ready to witness 2 Timothy 2:15
Hebrews 5:12-14 Strong meat, sense exercised speaks of a mature Christian - a life walked as Jesus walked.
The senses are exercised by discerning and waiting on God, watching in the spirit, by doing spiritual things.
I discern God's power flow through me as pray for people.
Romans 10:11-15 V14 A trained workman is sent.
V15 His feet are beautiful because he is a blessing.
There are no wrong attitudes, harsh words or bad deeds but lovely words, uplifting, good deeds, meeting needs.
Isaiah 52:7-9 Goodness of their lives brings joy to many.

(4) Establishment

Proverbs 11:3,5-6 Our integrity guides us in the right way to go through life.
Sometimes it is not easy to do the right thing and do what Jesus' Word has taught us and guided us to do.
Our righteousness is "our right standing with God" which protects us from sinning and reaping the result of sin i.e.death.

[B] Proverbs 4:27

Look straight on, walk straight on.
Our goal is Jesus, a heavenly city far away, eternal life.

Close

"Remove your foot from evil" - walk away from sin.
Take the yoke of Jesus upon us and learn from Him.
He gives us a comforter to help us, to ease our burden.
