Proverbs 4 : 20-27 Sermon Series
Scripture
Proverbs 4:20-22.
Introduction
So many Christians go to church, homegroup, do bible reading, read books and learn nothing.
They are clouds without rain. Why? Because they fail to heed or hear God's Word.
[1] Attend unto my Words
"Attend" = Hebrew (Strongs 7181) = Kaw-Shab = to prick up the ears i.e. to harken
Matthew 13:23
The Field - (Preparation) - the good ground of our heart
The Seed - (Plan) - receiving is hearing
The Sowing - (Action) - understanding is planting
The Reaping - (Result) - degree of fruitfulness
By hearkening to God's Word we start with a little understanding which grows into great understanding, great knowledge and great wisdom.
We start with a little of Jesus - salvation and end up being regenerated, redeemed, restored.
We end with more and more of Jesus - line upon line and precept upon precept.
[2] Incline thine ear unto my sayings
"Incline" speaks of making an effort to hear from God.
Proverbs 20:12
Some ears hear some don't - spiritually
Some eyes see some don't - spiritually
There are three types of people. Those that:
- Make things happen - moving in the Spirit.
- See things happening - observing in the Spirit.
- Wondered what happened - not in the Spirit.
Proverbs 18:15
How do we get knowledge? - read the Word (Proverbs, Logos)
How does our ear get knowledge? - listening to the Spirit (Rheema) - revelation.
Why is it "The ear of the wise?" - because they lean not on their own understanding but listen to God for:
- Our best
- His plans and purposes for our life
- His strategy in the midst of the battle
- To learn and hear how to grow and receive blessing in our lives.
[3] Let them not depart from thy eyes
Eyes are the windows to the soul.
Proverbs 3:21
We read with our eyes - God's Words and sayings
We read in the Word what to do or not to do.(Proverbs, parables, examples and experiences in the lives of many written in the bible) so we learn wisdom and discretion - fruit from what we so in us. Some don't sow!
Proverbs 3:22-25
Our fruit or harvest - adornment (V22), safety.
(V26) The Lord our source for all.
[4] Keep them in the midst of thine heart
Joshua 1:8 Don't just speak the talk but think the thought.
- Seed - Have the mind of Christ - found in the Word - Jesus is the Word.
- Sowing - "Day and night"= be consistent, be persisitent
When we become Christ minded we become obedient even unto death.
- Reaping - Result is prosperity - spiritually, materially and financially.
Good success - becoming an achiever, an overcomer, a winner.
2 Timothy 2:15 - Approved by God - passed the lessons
- Able worker - capable minister
- Knowing the will of God - knowing and teaching the truth
[5] They are life to those that find them
"Life" = refreshing, like a fresh summer shower
John 10:10 Abundant life - as we live in Christ.
The LOrd gives us seed (His Word/truth) to sow in our lives.
[6] Health to all their flesh
Sickness is the harvest or result of sin.
If we follow God's Word we obey and sin not and reap to ourselves righteouness, health, wholeness and prosperity.
We are full of joy and have a merry heart which is like a medicine Proverbs 17:22
